01 | Preface
Previously, we got a solid-state drive product – KISSIN SST802. As a solid-state drive with a SATA interface, it uses the original Hynix particles to ensure stable performance output. The read speed is as high as 547MB/s, which is very dazzling. For solid-state drives, in addition to performance, quality is also a criterion for testing the quality of the product. The quality mentioned here refers to the reliability of the solid-state drive. In simple terms, it is whether the solid-state drive will fall off the chain when encountering some emergencies or harsh environments during daily use.
In order to increase the trust of customers, we naturally need to increase the rigor of the test, and conduct continuous and uninterrupted aging, power failure, restart, hibernation and other tests based on the conditions or environments that may affect the SSD that we encounter on a daily basis. Today, the protagonist of our test is Kissin SST802, so can it withstand this series of tests? Below, let’s take a look at our test results.
02 | Aging Test
The so-called burn-in test is to use the BIT (BurnIn Test) software with the high and low temperature box to read and write the SATA hard disk at -10°C~75°C for a long time (72 hours), the purpose is to understand the potential failure analysis of the product, because in the Under long-term reading and writing, the temperature of the product increases, which will accelerate the aging of the chip, so that the failure occurs in advance. The principle is that the electron migration speed increases under high temperature conditions, and the atomic barrier effect is more obvious.
Before putting it in the high and low temperature box, we set the BIT software: 15% of the total disk is written each time, the maximum load is 1000, and the time is 72 hours.
What does this mean? Calculated according to the actual capacity of Kissin SST802 of 476.94, the amount of data written each time is 71.5GB, and the total amount of data written is 8871GB. According to the 10GB/day write volume of an ordinary office user, it is equivalent to two and a half years of continuous use.
Finally, let’s take a look at the health of the hard drive. It can be seen that after the 8871GB write operation, no bad block was generated, which shows the quality of our product.
03 | Power-off Test
The fast switch will generate a very high instantaneous induced voltage in the power supply circuit, that is, a surge phenomenon will occur, which will damage the power supply and the motherboard. For solid-state drives, it is very easy to cause data loss.
Here, we used the software to perform 3000 power-off tests on the SST802, which took 72 hours, and the result was 0, and the test passed again.
04 | Restart the test
For the hard disk, frequent restarts may cause bad sectors in some places, resulting in problems in data reading and errors during the test. Repeated restarts may even cause system data loss, blue screen and other issues.
Using the PassMark software, we also set 3000 restart cycles with an interval of 30s. After the test, there were no errors, blue screens and freezes.
05 | Sleep Test
When the computer is in hibernation, the system will save the current state, then turn off the hard disk, and resume the state before hibernation when it wakes up. The ability of Windows to manage memory is not very strong, and frequent hibernation is likely to cause system performance degradation. Unscheduled hibernation may also cause freezes and crashes.
In this round of testing, we still use PassMark software to do 3000 hibernation cycles on our SSD. As a result, the software does not report an error. After each hibernation, the machine can enter the desktop normally after waking up, and the test passes!
06 | Summary
